Come and join us whilst we explore the battlefields, forts and railways of the forgotten East African Campaign in the ‘Great War’ that altered the lives of millions and resulted in the complete redrawing of the map of Africa.
Inspect Carrier Corps HQ & Bura Patrol Camp. Arrive at Lion’s Bluff: lunch & battlefield briefing by James Willson, author of Guerrillas of Tsavo. Game drive and visit to WWI Memorabilia Exhibition. Inspection of site of ‘Mile 27 skirmish on ‘The Military Railway & Mashoti Fort and trenches. Campfire debrief and supper.
James Willson leads dawn foot patrol. Bush breakfast and battlefield briefing. Lunch in camp. Inspection of Maktau Camp, Military Railway HQ, Indian cemetery and water lines. Climb Picket Hill, inspect hill fort and gun emplacements with sundowners.
Breakfast campaign briefing. Expedition to the infamous Salaita Hill, Inspect Taveta Police Station & CWGC Cemeteries. Bivouac lunch at Snipers Baobab. Tour Mahoo and Mbyuni. Return to camp, debrief, overview of breach of Taveta front and British entry into German East Africa.
