STORYMOJA HAY FESTIVAL, NAIROBI
Nobel Laureates Wole Soyinka and Wangari Mathai along with other renowned Kenyan and international narrators, writers, poets and environmentalists will be in attendance at the Storymoja Hay Festival
which takes place from 31st July to August 2nd at the Impala Grounds in Nairobi.
Oral folklore and legend in pre-colonial Kenya was of paramount importance as the only form of storytelling or history. Most ethnic groups had their own particular folklore and mythologies. Storymoja Hay festival seeks to bring much-needed focus on the importance of literacy in improving people’s day-to-day lives, helping improve social cohesion and informed decision-making in an atmosphere of relaxed enjoyment.
Over the three days, the festival will feature over 100 events based on 12 themes; Literature, Environment, Gender, ICT, Health, Diversity, Finance, Entrepreneurship, Culture, Gender, Beauty and Self-Development designed to attract different target groups of different interests. Also not to be missed will be the storytelling competitions and an exciting programme of indoor and outdoor children’s events.
International music star Seckou Keita, Bestselling authors Hanif Kureishi and Vikram Seth, renowned writers Kate Adie, Jan Blake, Daniel Morden, Mukoma wa Ngugi, Chika Unigwe amongst others will be in attendance. Seckou Keita and several East African bands will provide musical entertainment in the evenings.
