The 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain (MAMA) took place on Saturday 10 October 2009 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Nairobi airing to a potential TV audience of 1 billion viewers around the world.
The annual celebration of the African continent's contemporary music and youth culture highlights the passion, impact and creativity of Africa's best contemporary artists. The MTV Africa Music Awards is Africa's most prestigious live music event.
As a vibrant and influential cultural hub, the city of Nairobi formed a brilliant backdrop to the MAMA Awards ensuring that the second edition of the Awards was truly an unforgettable experience.
Kenya's Amani recieved the Best Female Artiste award for her song Tonite while Nameless bagged the Listener's Choice Award and Best Male Artiste for his hit single Sunshine.
Akon and Wyclef Jean were among the top celebrities who made the red carpet entrance to the venue.
