Nairobi Tented Camp, a first for Nairobi National Park
Nairobi National Park is unique by being the only protected area in the world with a variety of animals and birds close to a capital city. The park is a principal attraction for visitors to Nairobi.
The KWS, in a new initiative with Mr. Guy Lawrence and Mr. Will Knocker, have set up the first and only accommodation in Nairobi National Park; Nairobi Tented Camp. The Camp will cater for both overseas visitors and residents.
Situated in the sole wildlife park to be found next to a major city in the world, the camp offers something that cannot be found anywhere else in the world – a quintessential safari experience on the periphery of a modern metropolis.
Nairobi Tented Camp is a fantastic stop-over for people travelling through Nairobi on their way to and from safari, or business men who would otherwise only see the gloomy grey of the inner city (the camp has the capabilities to host small higher-management conferences), but also as a tourism destination in itself.
The camp consists of eight luxury-style tents with ensuite bathrooms as well as elegant dining and living areas, comfortably nestled into a beautiful olive and croton forest in the Kisembe Valley, on the western side of the park.
It makes the most of modern facilities while retaining elements of the traditional mobile safari camp – such as bucket showers and a camp fire under the stars.
The food is delicious, cooked in an inimitable safari style – the charcoal oven – without stinting on variety, and all produce is totally fresh, thanks to our proximity to suppliers and ease of transport.
Solar powered energy, outside waste disposal, absolutely no permanent structures and a firm ecoconscious policy ensure that the camp is helping the park in the most environmentally friendly way possible.
The Camp has been granted 24 hour access into the park, widening our range of activities ever further with the availability of night game drives – when predators are at their most active.
Normal day game drives and short guided walks up the Kisembe Valley are other options, and guests are also within easy reach of many of the city’s other attractions – such as the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage and the Giraffe Centre.
