Sala’s Camp is nestled amongst an indigenous forest with views into the Northern Corridor, which is the route taken by the million wildebeest whose famous migration takes place annually. This makes Sala’s Camp the perfect spot to watch the Great Migration unfold. Sala’s Camp upholds a long tradition of safari under canvas, in which accommodation is stylish but simple, and reminiscent of early pioneering days.
The campsite was originally the choice for owners Tanya and Mikey Carr-Hartley’s mobile safari camp, and is now their semi-permanent camp in the Mara. Each tent is spacious and airy, with ensuite bathroom complete with flush toilet and hot showers.
Hanging temptingly in the trees in front of some of the tents are welcoming hammocks to relax in.
Safari from Sala’s Camp offers the classic Kenyan experience. The Masai Mara is an area of prolific wildlife and supreme sightings. Early morning game drives are highly recommended as the animals stretch and wake up to the dawn light, and take the opportunity to hunt.
Later on in the day, elephants lumber across the hills, and in the soft evening light the drama unfolds once more to reveal Africa’s natural rhythm.
In harmony with this rhythm are the red cloaked Maasai, who live outside the National Reserve, and can be met in their manyattas (villages).
