Kitili Mbathi takes over from Michael Joseph as KTB Chairman

His Excellency the President, Hon. Mwai Kibaki, E.G.H, MP, has appointed Mr. Kitili Mbathi as the Chairman of the Board of the Kenya Tourist Board (KTB). KTB is the country’s tourism marketing agency and was previously under the chairmanship of former Safaricom CEO, Mr. Michael Joseph who resigned in August 2011.

Mr. Mbathi has been appointed from the private sector for a three year term effective 28th September 2011.

He is the Chairman of CfC Stanbic Financial Services Limited and also the Managing Director of CfC Stanbic Holdings Ltd.

Mr. Mbathi has previously served as Investment Secretary and Privatization Coordinator in the Ministry of Finance and Planning.

At the same time, the Hon. Minister for Tourism, Mr. Najib Balala has inaugurated the re-constituted Board of Directors of the Kenya Tourist Board which includes several prominent members of the private sector in the fields of tourism and marketing.

Among the new board members are Mr. Mahmoud Jan Mohamed, the MD of Serena Hotels and Ms Patricia Ithau, MD of L’Oreal EA Ltd and an experienced marketing professional.

Others include Ms. Anne Wanyoike, the Chairperson of the Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA) who is also the MD of Charleston Travels and Mr. John Cleave of Mombasa Air Safaris representing the Mombasa and Coast Tourism Association.

On the Board also are Mr. Abdul Samji, Mr. Adam Jillo, Mr. Mohan Chandra and the Managing Director, Kenya Wildlife Services.

The Minister expressed optimism that the newly constituted Board under the chairmanship of Mr. Mbathi will steer KTB effectively as it seeks to fulfill its mandate of growing tourism in line with the Vision 2030 Plan in which tourism is a key pillar.
