Richard Quest joins growing list of celebrity visitors who have shone the spotlight on Nairobi

22nd October 2018: Renown CNN Business Anchor and Travel Journalist, Mr. Richard Quest was in Nairobi on a week-long tour that showcased Nairobi as a modern and dynamic business and leisure destination.

Mr. Quest begun his trip with a jog in Karura Forest with the world’s fastest marathoner, Eliud Kipchoge. Later this week, he will visit the world renown Giraffe Manor, ride on the Madaraka Express, visit the Nairobi Railway Museum and take a game drive through Nairobi National Park – the only national park in the world that is located within the boundaries of a capital city.

Commenting on Mr. Quest’s visit to Kenya, the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Hon. Najib Balala said, “Nairobi has been privileged to host quite a number of high-profile visitors over the last ten months, with the most recent visit being that of the U.S. First Lady, Melania Trump. Mr. Richard Quest’s visit will definitely shine the spotlight on Nairobi not only as the Safari Capital of the world but also as a modern and dynamic destination for global travellers.”

He was also onboard Kenya Airways’ maiden non-stop, direct flight that will depart Nairobi for New York City on Sunday, 28th October 2018.

CS Balala noted, “We anticipate that his visit will enhance Nairobi’s recognition as a hub destination of note especially for business travelers as the national carrier, Kenya Airways prepares to commence daily, direct, non-stop flights between New York City and Nairobi.”

The Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary also hailed CNN for the positive role It has played in providing positive publicity to Kenya as a travel destination.

Commenting on the CNN journalist’s visit to Kenya, Kenya Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Betty Radier has said Mr. Richard Quest’s tour of Nairobi will add impetus to ongoing efforts to attract more visitor numbers from the United States of America, which is Kenya’s top and best performing source market.

“Through Mr. Richard Quest’s trip, we expect there will be a marked increase in the consideration of Kenya as a holiday destination. This will especially soar once Kenya Airways begins direct flights between New York City and Nairobi.”

Early this year, global travel website, TripAdvisor rated Nairobi as one of the top ten destinations on the rise. Nairobi was voted third best destination on the rise by millions of travelers for being the safari capital of Africa, and as an energetic modern city that serves as a fascinating introduction to both wildlife and nightlife.
