Description:
The most important historic landmark on the coast is this Portuguese fort built in 1593 by an Italian architect as a symbol of the permanency of Portuguese rule. At this World Heritage Site, one will notice traces of European graffiti, Arabic inscriptions, and Swahili embellishment.
